Learn [Teach & Inspire]

Laura Hatcher (that's me – the proprietor of HDO) has been teaching as adjunct faculty in the design department of Towson University since 2002.  – and I've loved every minute of it. Being in the classroom not only forces me to "practice what I preach" (and really define the preaching!), it's like creative "Red Bull." After spending 8 or so hours each week discussing ideas, concepts, aesthetics and theory from basic and obvious to advanced and esoteric, I leave (pretty exhausted!) but also creatively recharged and excited to take on my next challenge -- which I often share with my students. I believe that my professional challenges and portfolio victories are among the most valuable assets I can bring to the collective table for a new designer to learn from.

In the sidebar to the right, please find some of my favorite tomes on design. To keep in touch and stay current, please check out "Design Detention," a facebook group I created as a way to communicate with past and present students on all things design-related. With nearly 300 members and growing, it is a fun and active community of design nerds (like me).
